All of the tanworld locations have spray tanning and their booths are really nice. There are locations at 156th & Hickman in Clive/Waukee, 50th & Mills Civic in WDM, and 80th & Douglas in Urbandale. If you've never been there before, you can do your first time (or a practice one) for usually somewhere between $10-15.
In fact, the visual impact of the general public (is 4 out of 5 stars) AskCity, so it sounds like a good bet.

Last year I drove from the city to be in a marriage, and I wanted to spray tan sundress that was unbearable. I'd say go for the airbrush and UV-free tanning in a shop near his home at least once a week before your departure. In this way, you know what the results will be similar, and how you "wear" on you.
